CRCST Chapter 21 Practice Test: Patient Care Equipment

About this chapter

Beyond surgical instrumentation, Central Service may be responsible for processing and distributing patient care equipment used throughout the facility. This chapter covers items such as IV poles, sequential compression devices, patient warming units, suction regulators, breast pumps, and other reusable devices. Each piece of equipment has specific cleaning, disinfection, or sterilization requirements based on its intended use and the manufacturer IFU. You will learn how to assess the appropriate level of processing for each device, proper handling and storage between uses, electrical safety considerations, preventive maintenance schedules, and documentation requirements. This expands the technician's scope beyond the OR to support patient care across the entire facility.
