CIS Certification

The Certified Instrument Specialist credential — the next step after CRCST for technicians who want to specialize in surgical instrumentation.

What is CIS?

The CIS (Certified Instrument Specialist) is an advanced certification offered by HSPA for sterile processing professionals who specialize in surgical instrument management. It demonstrates expert-level knowledge of instrument identification, function testing, troubleshooting, and complex tray assembly.
