CER Certification
The Certified Endoscope Reprocessor credential — specialized certification for technicians who reprocess flexible endoscopes.
What is CER?
The CER (Certified Endoscope Reprocessor) is a specialty certification from HSPA for technicians who reprocess flexible endoscopes — colonoscopes, bronchoscopes, duodenoscopes, and other complex devices that require high-level disinfection (HLD) rather than traditional sterilization.
Endoscope reprocessing is one of the highest-risk areas in healthcare. Improperly reprocessed scopes have caused major infection outbreaks. The CER credential demonstrates that you understand the unique challenges of scope reprocessing and can perform it safely.
Why CER is in High Demand
FDA safety communications have put endoscope reprocessing under intense scrutiny
CMS now requires facilities to have documented scope reprocessing competencies
The Joint Commission actively surveys endoscope reprocessing areas
Several states are considering CER-specific mandates for endoscopy staff
Hospital risk management teams increasingly require certified reprocessors
Eligibility Requirements
Active CRCST certification (must be current)
Minimum 1 year of endoscope reprocessing experience
